From 16–18 December 2025, the 3rd Junior High School of Rethymno, Greece hosted our inspiring first learning activity, bringing together teachers, students from all partner schools, and EULink representatives to explore and promote inclusive education!
The event focused on inclusive education, celebrating ability diversity and strengthening cooperation among partners.
Day 1: Explored theoretical frameworks and best practices. Partner schools shared legal frameworks, successful initiatives, and participated in a panel discussion exchanging experiences and challenges in inclusive education.
Day 2: Hands-on workshops helped participants experience accessibility challenges firsthand, from navigating spaces blindfolded, learning Braille, and exploring assistive technologies. Guest speakers included Georgios Dialektakis, ultra-marathon runner, Manos Giakoumakis, European javelin record holder, and George Spetsotakis, wheelchair basketball player, inspiring everyone with their stories. The event was honored by Mr. Nektarios Papadogiannis, Vice Mayor of Education, and Mr. Panagiotis Antoniadis, Deputy Director of Secondary Education of Rethymno, who emphasized the municipality’s strong commitment to inclusive education.
Day 3: Students and teachers collaborated in teams to design an Inclusive School Action Plan and create digital awareness posters to share via eTwinning and social media. A coordination meeting finalized next steps, followed by a farewell dinner to strengthen intercultural bonds.
We are excited to continue our journey at the 2nd Learning Activity, “Building Bridges Across Faiths,” hosted by Istanbul Ortaokulu, Türkiye in May 2026, promoting respect for religious diversity and interfaith dialogue.
Thank you to everyone who participated in making schools more inclusive and accessible for all!
